There is nothing better than the relaxation and decadence of a professional facial. Being able to lay down and feel pampered as you listen to relaxing music and have someone bring your skin back to life is the ultimate in luxury.
However, luxury can be quite expensive! So, when you can’t make it to the spa, why not treat your skin at home? The experience won’t be 100% the same, but you can still bring some great benefits to your skin while you take some time to treat yourself.
Here we will go through the steps for an amazing at-home facial that will leave you shiny and bright.
First Step: Cleans Your Skin
This is the most important step of your facial. You need to remove impurities and leave yourself with a clean slate in order to allow the other products to penetrate the skin.
Use a cleanser formulate for your skin type. It does not have to be extremely expensive, but make sure that it is of good quality and works well with your skin.
Don’t try to rush through this important step. Take your time.
Be sure to remove any difficult to remove makeup such as mascara and eye liner with a makeup remover or with coconut oil.
Rinse with lukewarm water.
Apply a dime size amount of your cleanser.
Using circular and upward strokes made with your middle and ring fingers wash the cleanser into your face.
Rinse again with lukewarm water and pat dry.
The first step is to cleanse your skin with a cleanser formulated for your skin type. There’s no need to splurge on department store cleansers, a basic drugstore cleanser will work well.
Second Step: Exfoliate
Exfoliating helps to slough off dead skin, encourage cell turnover, refine pores, and smooth and even out your skin tone. It also increases the ability of other products to penetrate your skin.
Again, using circular motions and your middle and ring fingers, apply the exfoliator to your skin.
Rub it in for 1 to 2 minutes.
Concentrate on your nose and forehead or on the areas of your face that tend to be greasy.
Rinse your face with lukewarm water. You may use a washcloth to rinse your face if you prefer.
Third Step: Steam
The most relaxing part of the facial, this is also a time when extreme cleansing occurs.
Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil.
Place your face near the pot and cover yourself with a towel, while the steam works on your face. Just be careful to not get too close and burn yourself!
Steam your face for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your reaction to it.
Fourth Step: Apply a Treatment Mask
The heart of your facial, the treatment mask is the time when you give your face the nutrients, moisture and antioxidants it needs. You can use a hydrating or gel mask that is suitable for your skin type if you have dry skin or use a clay-based mask if you have oily skin.
Apply mask according to directions.
Leave on for 10 to 20 minutes, again, according to the directions of the mask.
Rinse and remove.
Fifth Step: Tone
Use your favorite toner in order to balance the pH in your skin.
Sixth step: Moisturize
Soothe, moisturize and protect your face and neck with your favorite moisturizer. Take your time and massage it deeply into your skin. Allow it to become completely absorbed into your skin before applying any makeup to your skin.
Remember, it’s important to take time for yourself and pamper your skin. But you don’t have to drop serious cash every time you want a facial, when you can do it yourself at home. Enjoy this time for yourself and give yourself the extra pep you need to face the world.
